Yet while much has been written about Ireland’s low marriage rate and late age of marriage and the impact on the lives of women and men, much less attention has been devoted to marital fertility. Web1 This collection of ten essays seeks to shed new light on the politics and political culture of the first decade of independent Ireland, from 1922 to 1932, and it makes an excellent companion to the 1999 collection of essays, Ireland in the 1930s.
